What Investors Are Watching
Investors continued to monitor geopolitical developments in the Middle East, along with economic data that could indicate the future direction of US Federal Reserve interest rates. Gold is traditionally seen as a hedge against inflation and a safe-haven asset in uncertain times, although higher interest rates can reduce demand for it by making yield-bearing assets more attractive.
Central Banker's View
Bank of Italy Deputy Governor Sergio Nicoletti Altimari told the London Bullion Market Association's annual conference in Sorrento, Italy, that gold's safe-haven role is particularly relevant given heightened geopolitical risk and concerns about economic fragmentation.
