Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched two electric bus routes in Gujranwala and ordered officials to complete the city's mass transit corridor by March. The two routes will initially run between Chan da Qila and Lohianwala, and between Khiali and Jinnah/Nandipur. Officials said 74 electric buses would eventually operate across Gujranwala once the necessary infrastructure is completed.
No More Delays, CM Tells Officials
During a visit to the city on Friday, Maryam Nawaz inspected the ongoing mass transit project, including an underpass, tunnel and road infrastructure. She told officials there should be no further delay, acknowledging the difficulties caused to residents by the prolonged construction work.
A New Cardiac Institute Also in the Pipeline
The Chief Minister also visited the proposed site of the Maryam Nawaz Institute of Cardiology and directed authorities to begin construction as soon as possible. The 268-bed facility will be built on 50 kanals and include an emergency department, coronary care unit, intensive care unit and modern operation theatres, along with angiography catheterization laboratories, CT scan, ultrasound and gamma camera facilities. A 3-Tesla MRI, an ultra-fast CT scanner, two single-plane and one biplane angiography machines, four modular operation theatres and four heart-lung machines are also planned, according to the briefing.
