The federal government decided on Friday to abolish permanent government posts that have remained vacant for one year or longer, with 60 percent of the vacant posts to be scrapped. According to a notification issued by the Controller General of Accounts, posts falling vacant because of transfers, postings, or promotions will not be abolished.
Where the Cuts Will Come From
The posts to be abolished will be taken from the quotas for initial and direct recruitment. All relevant accounts offices have been directed to prepare a new vacancy roster accordingly, and to process promotion cases in line with the revised roster.
