PML-N and PPP stress resolving issues through dialogue as the first round of government-opposition talks concludes at the National Assembly, with a second round set for Saturday.
The first round of talks between the government and opposition concluded at the National Assembly Speaker's Chamber on Friday, with the parties holding detailed discussions on the country's political situation in what was described as a patient and dignified manner. The meeting was chaired by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, who played a pivotal role in facilitating negotiations and urged all sides to maintain restraint throughout the discussions.
A Second Round Already Scheduled
The government, PPP, and opposition teams presented their respective positions during this first round, with a second round of negotiations set for the following day at 2pm, again at the Speaker's Chamber.
Who Was in the Room
The government delegation included federal ministers Amir Muqam, Rana Sanaullah, Mohsin Naqvi, and Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, along with Minister of State Talal Chaudhry. PPP Senator Sherry Rehman and National Assembly members Naveed Qamar and Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani also took part. The opposition delegation comprised Barrister Gohar Khan, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Malik Muhammad Aamir Dogar, former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser, Salman Akram Raja, and Haleem Adil Sheikh.
Sherry Rehman's Message
Speaking to the media afterward, PPP Senator Sherry Rehman said both sides reaching the negotiating table reflected flexibility on all fronts, calling it the right political and democratic course of action. She said both sides would strive to conclude the talks by the following day and stressed the importance of avoiding mistrust during the process.
"No Acrimony," Says Opposition Leader
Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas said there was no acrimony during the negotiations, describing the atmosphere as dignified with every matter discussed openly by both committees.
