Over 82,000 QR Pink Buttons have been installed on public transport, rickshaws and online cabs in Punjab, letting women scan for emergency help. Here is how it works.

Over 82,000 QR “Pink Buttons” have been installed on public transport vehicles, rickshaws and online cabs across Punjab, on the special directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The mandatory measure aims to secure public transport and bring vehicles within the domain of the law. According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Sherazi, 22,000 men and women have so far scanned the QR Pink Buttons in online cabs and rickshaws, which are being installed at 45 locations across Lahore.

How the Pink Button Helps

If a woman faces harassment, she can immediately scan the QR code to seek emergency assistance, which makes travel safer.

Installation Teams

Dedicated installation teams are present in every traffic sector, along with 12 separate teams allocated specifically for installing the buttons on rickshaws. At the request of rickshaw unions, four new licensing centres have also been established.

Action on Non-Compliance

The CTO said modern security features and smart traffic management are being actively promoted, and warned that a strict decision has been taken to take action against online cab services that fail to adopt the new safety features.
