CPPA seeks a Rs1.73 per unit electricity price increase for August's fuel cost adjustment, with a NEPRA hearing scheduled today.
Electricity consumers across Pakistan could see higher bills as the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has sought a Rs1.73 per unit increase under the monthly fuel adjustment for August. NEPRA will hold a hearing on the request today, with the proposed increase also expected to apply to K-Electric consumers if approved.
Behind the Numbers
The adjustment is linked to electricity supplied to distribution companies (DISCOs) in August, when 14.464 billion units were supplied at a cost of Rs8.82 per unit, according to CPPA data.
Generation Mix for August
Hydropower led generation at 37.84% of the total, followed by imported coal (15.59%) and local coal (10.88%) — together making coal-based generation more than a quarter of the mix. Local gas contributed 7.04% and imported LNG 8.48%, with LNG-generated electricity costing Rs45.92 per unit. Furnace oil made up 2.15% of generation at Rs45.25 per unit, among the costlier sources in the mix.
