The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a significant reduction in K-Electric’s average base tariff, lowering it by Rs7.60 per unit. The decision brings the tariff down from Rs39.97 to Rs32.37 per unit, impacting all four areas of the utility’s operations — generation, transmission, distribution, and supply. NEPRA’s ruling follows K-Electric’s request for tariff revisions.
Officials confirmed that the previous “Right of Claims” decision remains unchanged, meaning consumers will continue to bear a financial burden of Rs50 billion under this category.
A K-Electric spokesperson said the company is currently reviewing NEPRA’s detailed decision and evaluating its implications across various operational segments. The utility also indicated that it will explore all available legal options regarding the ruling.
This development comes amid growing public concern over high electricity prices and ongoing debates around energy sector reforms in Pakistan.
