Petrol Relief Scheme: Discounted Fuel Only for the Vehicle Linked to Your Token, Pump Owners Clarify

Petrol pump owners in Pakistan have clarified that discounted petrol under the Prime Minister's fuel subsidy scheme will only be provided to vehicles that are registered and have a valid subsidy token. The All-Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association has urged consumers to cooperate with filling station staff and follow the government's procedures when claiming subsidized petrol.

What the Rule Means

Association leader Noman Ali Butt, citing the government's instructions, said the subsidy would only be available to customers whose vehicles were registered and for which a token had been generated through the official system. Petrol station owners are required to provide subsidized petrol only for the vehicle shown against the token in the system. Discounted petrol cannot be filled into another vehicle, including an unregistered car or motorcycle.

A Request to Citizens

Butt requested that citizens not pressure petrol station staff to provide subsidized fuel for vehicles other than the one linked to their token.

Over five million people have reportedly registered for the Prime Minister's Fuel Relief Scheme across Pakistan. Under the scheme, registered citizens are being offered petrol at a discount of Rs100 per litre. The government has activated a digital system for the programme, with subsidized fuel provided to eligible customers at petrol stations across the country, and officials say distribution is monitored in real time.
