Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the relevant authorities to develop a comprehensive and effective strategy for preventing diabetes across the country. He gave the directive while speaking to a delegation of national and international endocrinology and diabetes specialists who called on him in Islamabad. He said that prioritizing disease prevention alongside treatment is essential to tackling the growing health challenge posed by diabetes.

Healthy Lifestyles for Young People

The Prime Minister directed that effective steps be taken to promote a healthy lifestyle among young people, particularly college and university students. He stressed the need to raise public awareness at the national level about a balanced diet, regular physical activity and healthy habits.

Awareness Through All Media

He said awareness about diabetes prevention, timely diagnosis and healthy lifestyles should be spread through television, radio, digital platforms and other media.

A Clear Policy and Coordinated Plan

Shehbaz Sharif said a clear policy and an actionable plan aligned with national priorities are essential. He added that the relevant institutions should formulate a coordinated strategy for research, public awareness and preventive measures. He also called for regional and international cooperation, and directed that prevention measures be made more effective by learning from international experiences, research and best practices.

Members of the delegation appreciated the recent measures and policy implementation on the prevention and control of diabetes and other diseases, and expressed their resolve to support diabetes prevention and public awareness campaigns in Pakistan.
