Winter Electricity Bills Could Rise Sharply Across Pakistan

Electricity bills in Pakistan may increase during winter as higher fuel costs and lower hydropower output put pressure on power generation.
Electricity consumers across Pakistan may face higher bills between December and February, as rising fuel prices and changes in power generation could increase electricity costs.
According to officials, fuel price adjustments may become two to three times higher during the winter months. Higher prices of imported LNG and coal, along with reduced hydropower production, are among the main reasons behind the expected increase.
NEPRA Considering Rs2.56 Per Unit Increase
Separately, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has reserved its decision on a proposed increase of Rs2.56 per unit under the September fuel price adjustment.
If approved, the increase could place an additional burden of around Rs32.66 billion on electricity consumers across the country.
The final impact on winter bills will depend on fuel prices, electricity generation costs and future regulatory decisions.
