Rabia Naseem Farooqi explains Pakistan’s mandatory university internship policy, with three credit hours allocated to degree-related placements.
Internship Credit Hours for University Students
Parliamentary Secretary Rabia Naseem Farooqi has informed the National Assembly that internships are mandatory at universities across Pakistan to help students gain practical experience and improve their employment prospects.
She said the policy applies to 282 public and private universities, with three academic credit hours allocated for internships related to students’ degree programmes.
HEC to Oversee Implementation
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) is responsible for ensuring that universities implement the internship requirement, which was introduced under the 2023 undergraduate education policy.
Farooqi also highlighted Youth Development Centres established at universities to provide career guidance, share information about job opportunities and connect students with industry representatives.
The initiative aims to strengthen links between education and the job market and help graduates prepare for employment.
