Punjab Defers 5th-Grade Board Exams, Assessment Planned
Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said PECTAA will hold an assessment for 5th-graders this year to reduce exam pressure on younger students.

Punjab defers 5th-grade board exams this year. PECTAA will hold an assessment instead, and a regular exam will follow next year, says Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat.
Punjab has deferred the formal 5th-grade board examinations, so fifth-graders will not sit a board exam this year. Instead, the Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA) will hold an assessment for them, and a regular exam will follow next year. The phased approach is meant to reduce exam-related pressure on younger students.
Announcement
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat announced the decision. He said the 5th-grade assessment would be “transparent and fair.”
PECTAA to Conduct Assessment
PECTAA will carry out this year’s assessment for 5th-graders. The step is part of a phased approach to exams for younger students, with the regular examination to follow next year.
8th-Grade Exams to Continue
8th-grade exams will continue under the existing procedure for four major subjects. They will use special e-sheets, and on-screen marking of answer papers will be ensured.
