Is This the End of Tesla Cybertruck? Musk Reveals Major Production Shift for 2027
Tesla plans to wind down Cybertruck production at its Texas factory around mid-2027 as the company prepares to increase production of its Cybercab robotaxi. The announcement was made by CEO Elon Musk, marking a major change in the company's vehicle production strategy.

Tesla plans to wind down Cybertruck production by mid-2027 to make room for more Cybercab robotaxis at its Texas factory.
Why Is Tesla Changing Its Cybertruck Production?
The main reason behind the decision is Tesla's plan to use more factory space for Cybercab production. The two-seat autonomous vehicle is an important part of the company's robotaxi ambitions.
By reducing Cybertruck production, Tesla aims to make additional manufacturing capacity available for its future transportation projects.
Cybertruck Sales Remain Below Expectations
The Cybertruck entered the US market in late 2023 and attracted significant attention because of its unusual stainless-steel design.
However, its sales have remained below the company's original expectations. According to Kelley Blue Book figures, Tesla sold 20,237 Cybertrucks in the United States in 2025, compared with 38,965 in 2024.
Elon Musk had previously discussed an annual sales target of around 250,000 vehicles, making the actual sales figures considerably lower than early expectations.
Is Tesla Discontinuing the Cybertruck Completely?
The production announcement does not confirm that the Cybertruck will disappear permanently.
Tesla has not clarified whether production will move to another facility or end completely. The Texas factory is currently the only known facility equipped to manufacture the vehicle's specialised components.
Therefore, the final future of the Cybertruck remains uncertain.
Cybercab Takes Centre Stage in Tesla's Plans
Tesla is increasingly focusing on autonomous transportation and robotics. The Cybercab, designed specifically for robotaxi services, is a major part of this strategy.
The planned production shift will allow Tesla to dedicate more factory space to the vehicle as it works to expand its autonomous transportation business.
The coming months will reveal whether the Cybertruck returns to production at another facility or gradually leaves Tesla's vehicle lineup.
