The lab brings researchers and students together to study artificial intelligence alongside its social and human impact, and links Punjab University with Türkiye's Yıldız Technical University.

A Human-Centered AI Laboratory supported by Türkiye's TİKA opens at the University of the Punjab, linking it with Yıldız Technical University for joint AI research.
The Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence Laboratory has been inaugurated at the University of the Punjab, bringing together researchers and students to explore artificial intelligence along with its social and human implications. The laboratory has been set up with support from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA). The opening ceremony was attended by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Ali, faculty members, researchers, students and other guests, with Türkiye's Consul General in Lahore, Mehmet Eymen Şimşek, speaking at the event.
Focus on Responsible AI
Şimşek said AI has significant potential in education, healthcare, research and public services, but its rapid development also raises questions about what the technology is designed for, whom it serves and how it affects society. He said the lab will give students and researchers the chance to develop technical skills while examining the human consequences of the systems they build. He stressed that morality, privacy and responsibility should be considered from the start of technology development and help shape how AI systems are designed and used.
More Than a Technology Space
Şimşek said the facility should be seen as more than a space equipped with technology, and that its long-term value will depend on the research conducted there and the solutions developed for real-world needs.
Pakistan-Türkiye Academic Partnership
The project also brings the University of the Punjab and Türkiye's Yıldız Technical University together in an academic partnership focused on AI. Şimşek said this could give students and researchers opportunities to exchange knowledge, undertake joint research and learn from different academic perspectives. He described Türkiye and Pakistan as close friends and said university and youth cooperation helps strengthen bilateral ties.
