The World Bank Group has mobilised nearly $3.2 billion in private capital for Pakistan since 2022, according to a World Bank Group press release. The announcement comes as the Group’s total private capital mobilisation for developing economies reached a record $112 billion in fiscal year 2026, up from $35 billion in FY2022. Together with its own financing, total financing and mobilisation for developing economies exceeded $200 billion in FY2026.

Growth Across Income Groups

  • Lower-middle-income countries: from $14 billion in FY2022 to $37 billion in FY2026

  • Upper-middle-income countries: from $12 billion to $50 billion

  • Low-income countries: maintained at around $3 billion

  • Africa: from about $9 billion to $22 billion, an increase of nearly 150%

What Drove the Increase

The World Bank Group attributed the growth to three years of reforms aimed at engaging better with the private sector, simplifying procedures, improving coordination between its public and private sector operations, and expanding financing and investment tools. It introduced a single point of contact for its public and private operations in each country and began developing integrated country strategies aligned with national priorities. Its Private Sector Investment Lab has also helped identify practical barriers to investment and develop ways to address them.

Guarantees Surpass Target Early

The Group issued more than $25 billion in guarantees in FY2026, exceeding its target of $20 billion a year by 2030, four years ahead of schedule. The increase was led by the World Bank Group Guarantee Platform, set up in 2024 to give clients and investors a single point of access to guarantee products.
