Pakistani Small Businesses Get New Route to Global Markets Through Alibaba Partnership

SMEDA and Alibaba.com plan to train 10,000 Pakistani SMEs and help 2,000 businesses join a global platform, with support of up to Rs150,000.
Pakistan's small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are set to receive support in reaching international buyers through a partnership between the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) and global e-commerce platform Alibaba.com.
Under the initiative, the organisations plan to train 10,000 Pakistani businesses and facilitate the onboarding of up to 2,000 eligible enterprises onto Alibaba.com's international business-to-business platform.
Financial Assistance and Training for Eligible Firms
Eligible businesses may receive reimbursement-based financial assistance of up to Rs150,000 each through SMEDA. The programme will also provide onboarding support, technical guidance and preferential pricing to help businesses develop their digital export capabilities.
Priority will be given to export-oriented sectors, including sports goods and sportswear, textiles, agricultural machinery and automobile parts.
Focus on Digital Exports
The partnership aims to help local businesses connect with international buyers, improve their online presence and strengthen their export readiness.
The initiative builds on an agreement signed by SMEDA and Alibaba.com in May 2026. Its success will depend on eligible businesses completing the selection and onboarding process and turning new digital connections into actual export orders.
