The President calls for stronger political, economic and defence ties as Pakistan and Germany mark 75 years of diplomatic relations.

President Zardari and German President Steinmeier discuss trade, defence and regional peace in Berlin on the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-Germany ties.
President Asif Ali Zardari has called for expanding political, economic and defence cooperation between Pakistan and Germany, urging a stronger partnership through trade, emerging technologies, climate resilience and skills development. He was speaking during a meeting with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin on Friday, October 23.
Cooperation
Zardari said the visit, the first in 23 years, coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations. It runs from October 22 to 24.
He called for greater collaboration in science, healthcare, education, vocational training, technology, agriculture, industry, trade and investment, and for stronger government, business and expert-level engagement.
Steinmeier hoped both countries would intensify efforts to promote business, trade, education and technology cooperation.
Regional Peace
Zardari thanked Steinmeier for Germany’s recognition of Pakistan’s mediation role in the conflict between the United States and Iran, saying Pakistan supports resolving conflicts through sustained dialogue. Steinmeier praised Pakistan’s diplomatic role.
Afghanistan and Makkah Defence Pact
The two presidents discussed Afghanistan, including security and humanitarian issues. Zardari said Pakistan has no conflict with the Afghan people but will not allow terrorists to use Afghan territory against Pakistani citizens or its sovereignty. Steinmeier appreciated Pakistan’s role in verifying 500 Afghans due for relocation to Germany and its humanitarian assistance to millions of Afghans over four decades.
Responding to Steinmeier’s interest, Zardari said the Makkah Defence Pact is meant to support regional security and provide an alternative to conflict, and is not directed against any country.
