Pakistan's hockey team will play in the Men's Asian Champions Trophy scheduled for October 27 to November 5 in India, confirmed Punjab (India) Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The six-team tournament also features host India, China, Japan, Malaysia, and South Korea, with league matches in Jalandhar and the semi-finals/final in Mohali. Oman and Bangladesh are named reserve teams in case any side withdraws.

Why Pakistan Can Play Despite Tensions

Mann explained that India's current sports policy allows Pakistan to compete in multinational tournaments even though bilateral series between the two countries remain restricted: "There is no problem in multinational tournaments. Maybe individual series between India and Pakistan cannot take place." India's Sports Ministry has maintained this stance is consistent with the Olympic Charter.

India Enters as Two-Time Defending Champion

India won the previous two editions — 2023 in Chennai and 2024 in Hulunbuir, China — and will defend its title on home soil for the first time as Punjab hosts the tournament.

Hockey India secretary general Bhola Nath Singh, present at the announcement, said relations between the Pakistani and Indian hockey federations remain positive, stating on record that the two bodies "share very good relations."
