GCU Student Completes 1,100km Lahore-to-Skardu Run in 21 Days
GCU student Faizan Ahmed Faiz completes a 1,100km run from Lahore to Skardu in 21 days, promoting drug-free youth and honoring Pakistan’s martyrs.
Government College University (GCU) Lahore student Faizan Ahmed Faiz has completed a 1,100-kilometre run from Lahore to Skardu in 21 days, using the endurance challenge to promote a drug-free lifestyle among young people and pay tribute to Pakistan’s armed forces martyrs.
Faizan, a member of the Falcon Triathlon Club, crossed Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan during the demanding journey. His route included Gujranwala, Jhelum, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Abbottabad, Naran, Babusar Top, Chilas and Raikot before reaching Skardu.
He said extreme heat between Lahore and Jhelum and the steep climb from Naran to Babusar Top were among the toughest parts of the run. His pacer, Abdullah Shahzad, ran 10 kilometres with him each day to help maintain the schedule. Security officials, district administration teams and Rescue 1122 also provided support and medical cover.
Faizan received a warm welcome in Skardu, where local residents gathered to celebrate his arrival. He was also received by Skardu Deputy Commissioner Hamza Murad, GCU Vice Chancellor Prof. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry and university sports officials.
The athlete plans to compete in upcoming inter-varsity running championships and has announced another long-distance project, a Lahore-to-Karachi run planned for next year.
