Tough contest expected as polling underway in Bagh by-election

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly constituency LA-15 Bagh-2 is holding a by-election.

The voting began at 8 a.m. and will continue without interruption until 5 p.m.

The AJK Election Commission has made every effort to ensure that the election is free, fair, and transparent.

The seat became vacant after the AJK High Court disqualified ex-prime minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas in a contempt of court case.

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are likely to compete fiercely.

In today's (Thursday) by-election, at least 101,186 people will cast ballots, including 53,108 men and 48,038 women.

In the constituency, at least 189 voting stations have been established, with 29 declared to be delicate and 20 categorised as highly sensitive.

On the day of the by-election, the administration deployed around 2,578 police officers and 600 Rangers and FC personnel to maintain law and order.
