SECP says six entities, including Starlink and SpaceSail Pakistan, are registered for satellite internet; licences follow security and PSARB clearances.

Six local entities have been registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) to offer satellite internet services, according to a report submitted to the Senate Standing Committee. The report shows growing interest in launching the service in Pakistan. Commercial operations can begin once the required security and regulatory procedures are completed.

Registered Companies

The SECP’s list of registered entities:

  • Ether One

  • Flynautics

  • Galaxy Space

  • SpaceP, a subsidiary under the National Command Authority

  • Starlink

  • SpaceSail Pakistan

Four of the six were registered after the Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board (PSARB) was established.

Progress So Far

SpaceP has already obtained the NOC from PSARB, which is mandatory before service can proceed.

Remaining Steps

Security clearances for the foreign directors and shareholders of Starlink, Galaxy Space and SpaceSail Pakistan are with the Ministry of Interior. The other registered companies still need to submit their PSARB NOCs. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will issue licences once the security clearance and the PSARB NOC are obtained.

Report to the Senate Committee

The SECP submitted the report in response to a letter from Senate Standing Committee chairman Rana Mahmood-ul-Hassan. It stated that company registration does not authorise commercial satellite internet services.
