Spotify Plans AI Music Remix Service for 2027 Launch

Spotify is reportedly planning an AI remix tool for 2027, allowing Premium users to create song versions for an additional monthly fee.
Spotify Targets Early 2027 for AI Remix Tool
Spotify is reportedly preparing to launch an artificial intelligence-powered music remix service in the first quarter of 2027. The feature will allow paying subscribers to create their own versions of songs by participating artists.
The service could be introduced around the Grammy Awards in February. Spotify is also considering an additional monthly charge of $4 to $5, although neither the launch date nor the price has been finalised.
How the AI Feature Will Work
The tool is expected to let users change the style of existing songs, such as turning a folk track into dance music or creating a version that sounds like another artist is performing it.
Unlike AI platforms that generate entirely new songs from text prompts, Spotify's planned service will focus on remixes and covers of existing music.
Artists to Receive Royalties
Spotify plans to direct royalties from fan-created versions to the artists and rights holders behind the original songs. The company is also reportedly developing a system that could allow remix streams to count towards the original tracks in its charts.
Licensing agreements have been reached with Universal Music Group, Merlin and Believe. Talks with Sony Music and Warner Music are reportedly still underway.
Artists will be able to decide whether their music can be used in the feature, even when their record labels have signed agreements.
The service is part of Spotify's wider effort to introduce new paid features and create additional revenue opportunities for artists and the company.
