ChatGPT Lets Users Try On Clothes Before Buying
OpenAI's new "Try On" feature uses selfies and its latest image-generation system to show how clothing might look before purchase, as the company expands into AI-powered shopping.

OpenAI launches a new ChatGPT feature letting users virtually try on clothes using selfies, alongside a Favorites tool for saving products while shopping.
OpenAI has introduced new shopping features in ChatGPT that let users virtually try on clothes and accessories and save products to revisit later. The features launched globally on October 1 and are available on ChatGPT's web and mobile versions.
How the Try-On Feature Works
The Try On option appears on eligible clothing and accessory listings in ChatGPT's shopping results. Users can upload a selfie or full-body photo to generate an image showing how an item might look on them, or upload a photo of clothing and ask ChatGPT to visualise it. The feature runs on ChatGPT Images 2.5, OpenAI's latest image-generation system, which brings improvements in detail, editing accuracy, and speed. OpenAI cautions that try-on images may not exactly represent the product or the user's actual appearance and doesn't guarantee fit or size, advising users to check retailer measurements and return policies before buying.
Saving Products for Later
OpenAI has also introduced Favorites, letting users save products discovered while shopping and organise them in folders within the ChatGPT Library, including try-on images and reference photos.
A Competitive Shopping Market
These tools build on ChatGPT's existing shopping capabilities, including product search, comparison, and style-based recommendations. The expansion puts ChatGPT into an increasingly competitive AI shopping space alongside Google, which introduced its own virtual try-on feature in 2025, and Pinterest.
