The US and Pakistan open a new innovation center, with Shaza Fatima revealing 50% of Pakistan's IT exports go to the US, alongside new startup funding.

The United States and Pakistan reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in technology, startups, and innovation as US Chargé d'Affaires Natalie Baker and Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima inaugurated a new innovation center. Baker said both countries would benefit from Pakistani startups growing through US technology, pledging continued cooperation across the business and IT ecosystem.

The Numbers Behind the Partnership

Fatima revealed that approximately 50% of Pakistan's IT exports currently go to the United States, making Washington the country's largest tech trade partner. She said Pakistan's exports are growing between 20% and 22%, with a Google office already opened in Pakistan this year, and both Apple and Google signaling further expansion into the country.

New Funding on the Table

The minister announced Rs100 million in new funding for business ideas, building on a startup financial support programme launched two years ago with backing from the World Bank. Eight business training centres are currently operational nationwide, with a dedicated centre for women launching this year to improve digital opportunity access.

A Relationship Marking a Milestone

Fatima noted Pakistan and the US will celebrate 80 years of friendship next year, framing this innovation center as part of that long-standing partnership's next chapter.

The Bottom Line

With half of Pakistan's IT exports already flowing to American markets, this innovation center isn't starting a new relationship — it's formalizing one that's already deeply embedded, now backed by fresh funding, a Google office, and the promise of more global tech players following suit.
