The Punjab government has decided to shut down schools, colleges, and universities across the province from February 6 to 9 due to the upcoming general elections on February 8. This decision, applicable to both public and private educational institutions, was approved by the Provincial Cabinet. Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi shared the announcement, stating that the regular school timings will resume after February 3, with the current 9:30 am opening time maintained until then.

It’s worth noting that the winter break, which began on December 18, 2023, was initially set to conclude on January 1, 2024. However, due to severe weather conditions, it was extended until January 9. Subsequently, with no improvement in conditions, school timings were adjusted to start at 9:30 am.

On January 8, the provincial government modified school timings to start at 9:30 am from January 10 to 22, considering the cold and smoggy weather. Given the ongoing cold weather, the Punjab School Education Department extended winter holidays until January 9.

On January 10, Mohsin Naqvi announced the suspension of classes for students in grade one and below for an additional week due to the prevailing cold wave in the province. The decision also included the postponement of exams for grades 1-10 following the unfortunate death of 36 children due to pneumonia.
