Pakistan Rejects India’s ‘Baseless’ Claims on Status of Occupied Kashmir

Pakistan on Monday rejected India’s claims regarding the status of Jammu and Kashmir, with Foreign Office spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan saying that India’s unilateral claims of sovereignty cannot change the internationally recognised disputed status of the territory.
The spokesperson said the Kashmir dispute remains one of the oldest unresolved issues on the United Nations Security Council’s agenda. He maintained that relevant UN resolutions call for the final status of Jammu and Kashmir to be determined in accordance with the will of the Kashmiri people through a free and impartial plebiscite under UN auspices.
Sajjad Haider Khan further said official UN maps continue to depict Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed territory. He urged the international community to press India to stop human rights violations in the region and fulfil its commitments regarding the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people.
