COAS Asim Munir and Saudi CGS Gen. Fayyadh Al Rowaili discuss enhanced defence and counter-terrorism collaboration at GHQ Rawalpindi.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia’s military leadership on Monday engaged in high-level discussions aimed at further strengthening their “longstanding and strategic” defence partnership, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in an official statement.

The meeting took place at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi between Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Field Marshal Asim Munir, and the Chief of General Staff (CGS) of the Saudi Armed Forces, General Fayyadh Bin Hameed Al Rowaili.

According to the ISPR, both sides explored avenues to deepen cooperation in defence, security, and counter-terrorism—key pillars of the bilateral relationship. The discussions underscored the mutual commitment to enhancing strategic coordination amid evolving regional challenges.

General Rowaili appreciated Pakistan’s extensive support and collaboration with the Saudi Armed Forces across various domains. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to further strengthening military-to-military ties and advancing joint strategic initiatives.

Upon arrival, the Saudi CGS laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada to honour Pakistan’s fallen soldiers, followed by a Guard of Honour presented by a Pakistan Army contingent.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of deepening defence cooperation between the two nations. In September, Islamabad and Riyadh signed a Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement, pledging that any attack on either country would be treated as aggression against both. Earlier this month, Pakistan’s CGS Lieutenant General Aamer Raza also met General Rowaili in Riyadh to further discuss expanding strategic collaboration.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share a longstanding relationship rooted in military cooperation, economic partnership, and shared Islamic values. Riyadh has historically supported Pakistan through financial assistance and oil supplies, while both countries maintain extensive defence ties.
