iPhone mysterious shutdown issue worries users

Many iPhone users have found themselves grappling with a perplexing problem – their phones unexpectedly powering down during the night. This issue isn’t exclusive to the latest iPhone 15 models; it has a broader impact across various devices.

The issue came to light when a Reddit user experienced their iPhone’s alarm prompting them for their SIM card’s PIN to unlock the device upon waking up. Face ID remained unresponsive until the PIN code was entered. An examination of their battery statistics revealed a peculiar blank period between 3 AM and 7 AM, suggesting that the phone had undergone a shutdown and subsequent reboot.

Importantly, this issue is not limited to those using beta versions; the majority of affected users were on iOS 17.0.3. What’s even more striking is that it’s not confined to the newest iPhone 15 models; it’s also affecting older devices like the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 13 Mini, with users from around the world reporting the same problem.

Several theories have been circulating to explain this issue. One hypothesis suggests that Apple’s servers may have triggered a mass shutdown request, but this alone doesn’t account for the unexpected reboot. A more plausible explanation is the occurrence of a kernel panic or overheating, which could result in a sudden reboot and a subsequent boot loop.

One aspect that raises significant questions is the absence of battery statistics during the mysterious “off” period. This perplexing situation leaves users puzzled and concerned about their devices’ reliability.

As this problem continues to gain attention and more users report experiencing it, the big question remains whether Apple will address this issue with a software update or offer a solution to ease the concerns of iPhone users worldwide.
