The upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series continues to attract attention as new leaks shed light on its design and technical features. Apple appears set to maintain a familiar front camera layout while introducing subtle innovations to enhance user experience.
Front Camera and Face ID Layout
Reports indicate that the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models will keep the front camera and sensor arrangement from the previous generation, featuring a centered pill-shaped cutout rather than moving it to the top-left corner. This choice supports a consistent screen design and preserves Face ID functionality. Earlier rumors about a left-aligned camera were clarified as translation errors.
Under-Display Face ID Components
Apple is exploring a partial relocation of Face ID elements, such as placing the flood illuminator beneath the display, while the infrared sensor remains near the selfie camera. This adjustment aims to reduce the size of the Dynamic Island without removing it, maintaining its current position and function. Industry experts note that fully embedding all Face ID components under the display remains challenging, leading Apple to adopt a gradual approach in shrinking the cutout rather than switching to a smaller single camera hole.
Display and Camera Enhancements
- The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to feature a 6.27-inch Super Retina display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
- The Pro Max variant may offer a larger 6.86-inch Super Retina display, also supporting 120Hz.
- Both models will likely integrate under-display Face ID elements, contributing to a more compact Dynamic Island.
Regarding photography, the rear camera setup is anticipated to remain a triple-lens system similar to the previous generation. However, new features such as a variable aperture system, a stacked image sensor, and improvements for low-light photography could enhance image quality significantly.
Performance and Battery
Both iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to be powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 2nm process, which should improve efficiency and thermal management. The Pro Max model may also include a larger 5,100mAh battery and support for Apple’s new C2 modem, promising faster 5G connectivity.
