IMF maintains Pakistan's Rs15.264 trillion tax target for FY2026-27 and urges FBR to meet its half-year collection goal of Rs7.022 trillion.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has maintained Pakistan's annual tax collection target at Rs15.264 trillion for the fiscal year 2026-27, keeping pressure on the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to sustain its collection efforts.

According to reports following recent discussions between Pakistan and the IMF, the Fund wants authorities to ensure that the revenue target is achieved despite economic and fiscal challenges.

FBR Faces Rs7.022 Trillion Half-Year Goal

The FBR has been assigned a collection target of Rs7.022 trillion for the first half of FY2026-27, ending December 2026.

The IMF is focusing on whether the tax authority can maintain the required pace of revenue collection during the remaining months of the fiscal year. Sources reported that the FBR exceeded its first-quarter target, but meeting the full-year goal remains a key priority.

Tax Reforms Remain Central to IMF Programme

The IMF continues to emphasise stronger tax administration, broader tax coverage and improved revenue collection.

Pakistan is expected to rely on administrative reforms and better compliance to meet its commitments under the IMF-supported programme. The progress of tax collection will remain an important part of the country's fiscal review.
