Top Indian court demands BJP's Nupur Sharma to apologies on blasphemous comments

The Supreme Court of India issued a strong rebuke to former Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Nupur Sharma on Friday, condemning her insulting comments about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The court said that Sharma should apologies for her remarks, which have set the whole country on fire.

In a TV debate last month, Sharma made anti-Islam remarks that prompted clashes in an Indian state where Muslims demanded her arrest. Her comments also drew criticism from Muslim countries and institutions.

She was removed from the position after Pakistan, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iran, and other Islamic nations registered protests with the Indian government.

The Supreme Court of India has also asked her to appear on a TV channel and apologies to the nation for her act. The court issued the remarks while hearing Sharma’s petition seeking to club different cases registered against him in different parts of the country.

The court has rejected the petitioner’s plea, stating that the petition reflects her arrogance and that she believes the magistrates of the country are too small for her.

When her lawyer told the court that she had already issued an apology and taken back her comments, the judges said that she withdrew the comments conditionally, saying if sentiments of the public were hurt.
