Punjab Local Elections Set for February 7, 2027

ECP sets February 7, 2027, for the first phase of Punjab local government elections after accepting the provincial government's request.
ECP Announces First Phase Polling Date
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has scheduled the first phase of local government elections in Punjab for February 7, 2027.
The decision was announced on November 5 after the commission accepted the provincial government's request to hold polling after January 20.
Fog and Weather Conditions Behind Request
During the hearing, Punjab Chief Secretary informed the ECP that dense fog and cold weather, particularly in Lahore, could create difficulties for voters and election staff during December and January.
The provincial government also requested additional time to arrange transportation, polling stations and other administrative facilities.
Officials said preparations for the elections were underway and that the provincial administration was ready to cooperate with the commission.
Elections to Be Held in Phases
The ECP decided to conduct the local government elections in multiple phases, with February 7 fixed for the first phase.
The commission's four-member bench was headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja. It directed the ECP secretariat to take further action following the decision.
Final Election Schedule Still Awaited
The February 7 date is for the first phase of polling. Further details, including the districts covered and the complete election programme, are expected through subsequent ECP announcements.
The decision marks an important step towards holding local government elections in Punjab after years of delays.
