The Sindh government has announced a holiday for all educational institutions across the province on January 17 to mark the occasion of Shab-e-Meraj. Both government and private schools will remain closed on this day, according to an official notification released on Tuesday.
Significance of Shab-e-Meraj
Shab-e-Meraj, observed annually on the 27th of Rajab according to the lunar calendar, commemorates the Isra and Meraj — the miraculous night journey and ascension of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). During this event, the Prophet is believed to have traveled through the seven heavens on the celestial creature ‘al-Buraq’ and reached close to the Throne of Allah.
On this night, the Prophet received divine knowledge and was instructed on the obligation of the five daily prayers, which remain a fundamental pillar of Islam.
