Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the urgency of focusing on renewable energy sources to reduce reliance on oil imports, likening the drain of national wealth by the oil mafia to a leech. He made these remarks while chairing a high-level meeting aimed at assessing progress in power sector projects.

He instructed the utilization of all available resources for power generation through alternative and renewable energy sources to curtail oil imports. Highlighting the country’s considerable potential for electricity generation through hydel resources, he advocated shifting focus away from costly imported oil.

Shehbaz Sharif underscored the dire condition of the power distribution system and transmission lines, stressing the need for comprehensive reforms and significant investment in this sector.

He emphasized that prioritizing wind power, solar energy, and hydel power would yield positive outcomes, while also affirming the government’s commitment to combat power theft.

Expressing condolences for lives lost due to recent torrential rains, the Prime Minister directed the National Disaster Management Authority to expedite rescue and relief efforts in affected areas. He called for the provision of essential relief goods to affected individuals in collaboration with the provinces.
