KP CM Afridi Thanks Bilawal for Well Wishes During Sindh Tour

Afridi arrived in Sindh earlier this week for a five-day visit. He is leading a public mobilisation campaign for his party's nationwide protest on 27 September. The protest demands the release of PTI founder Imran Khan and his immediate medical treatment at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad.

After Afridi's visit to Larkana, Bilawal welcomed him to the "city of martyrs" in a post on social media platform X on Saturday night. Bilawal stated, "Best wishes for the remainder of your tour across Sindh. We must ultimately return to a politics of tolerance, respect and coexistence, the foundation of any democracy."

Afridi's Response

In response, Afridi thanked Bilawal and highlighted the "beauty of democracy". He emphasised freedom of politics and expression, independence of the judiciary, acceptance of public mandate, and the importance of an independent parliament and free press.

Afridi also expressed hope for a large turnout in Karachi and Hyderabad, where he is scheduled to visit today.

Political Context

Bilawal had previously expressed grievances over alleged irregularities in the recent Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections. He stated that a genuine alliance with the PML-N was not possible until these issues were addressed.

Meanwhile, the PPP has established formal contact with the PTI, offering cooperation in parliament. The PPP has been the ruling PML-N's main ally in the Centre, while the PTI remains in opposition.

During Afridi's last visit to Sindh for a street movement, he initially praised the PPP-led Sindh government's reception. He noted the democratic legacy of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto in the province. However, he later criticised the Sindh government for not upholding the honour of the ajrak and topi and for its treatment of guests.
