EU Commissioner Magnus Brunner praises Pakistan for cutting irregular migration to Europe by 64%, as Pakistan and the EU agree to expand border security and legal migration cooperation.

European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner has praised Pakistan’s measures against illegal migration, highlighting a 64% reduction in irregular migration towards Europe and calling it a commendable achievement. He made the remarks during a meeting in Islamabad with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, where the two sides agreed to enhance cooperation on border security and promote legal migration between Pakistan and the European Union.

Praise for the FIA

Brunner also praised the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for its professional competence. He said that reducing illegal migration helps pave the way for legal migration, and stressed the importance of creating lawful channels for people seeking opportunities in Europe.

Pakistan’s Zero-Tolerance Policy

Naqvi said Pakistan has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against illegal migration. After achieving the 64% reduction, he said, the country’s next objective is to eliminate it completely. He described illegal migration as a highly serious global issue that Pakistan and the EU need to tackle together.

What the Two Sides Agreed
