OGRA proposal for another hike in petrol prices, rejected by PM

OGRA proposed another increase in petrol prices, however, Prime Minister Imran Khan declined their proposal.

Prime Minister Imran Khan recently rejected the Oil and Regulatory Authority’s (OGRA) proposal to raise petroleum product prices, announcing that prices would stay the same for the first two weeks of November 2021.

The OGRA proposed a petrol price rise of Rs11.53 per litre, a high-speed diesel price increase of Rs8.49 per litre, a kerosene price increase of Rs6.29 per litre, and a Light Diesel Oil price increase of Rs5.72 per litre (LDO).

The Prime Minister’s Office released a statement in which the premier stated that the cost of rising international fuel prices would not be borne by the people. “Instead of passing on the brunt of global inflationary pressures, the government is prioritising assistance for citizens,” the statement stated.

“The additional burden of increasing prices, as indicated by the OGRA, will instead be absorbed by the government,” it stated.
