Severe weather and heavy rains in Karachi on Tuesday caused major disruptions to air operations, leading to multiple flight cancellations and grounding of training aircraft.
According to aviation officials, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) canceled several key flights, including PK-308 from Karachi to Islamabad, PK-310 from Karachi to Quetta, PK-536 from Karachi to Sukkur, along with the return flight from Sukkur to Karachi. A chartered flight from Karachi to Islamkot was also called off due to unfavorable weather conditions.
Similarly, flight PA-208 of a private airline scheduled for Karachi to Islamabad was canceled, while a PIA flight from Skardu to Karachi had to be diverted to Sukkur Airport amid safety concerns.
In addition to commercial flights, authorities issued directives to ground small training aircraft, citing safety risks from the adverse weather. Flying companies were instructed to secure their Cessna planes inside hangars, with weights attached, to prevent damage.
The situation has added further strain to the city already grappling with flooded roads, power outages, and widespread disruption caused by torrential rains.
