Punjab Launches Green Credit Initiative Offering Rs20,000 Reward for Cycling

The provincial government has launched the Punjab Green Credit Program, offering cash rewards worth up to Rs20,000 to citizens who adopt eco-friendly transport habits, specifically cycling. Under this environmental initiative, residents are encouraged to switch from fuel-powered vehicles to non-motorized transport to reduce vehicle emissions and combat seasonal smog across urban centers. The program connects citizen-led climate action directly with measurable financial incentives through an automated verification mechanism.

To qualify for the reward, participants must complete a cumulative distance of at least 75 kilometres on a bicycle. The journey must be recorded and logged through the official mobile tracker app designed for the program. Upon completing the required mileage, users submit photographic evidence of their bicycle alongside trip logs via an online measurement, reporting, and verification portal.

Once the data passes verification checks, the system disburses the reward directly to the participant's account without manual interference. Initially introduced for urban cyclists, the broader initiative covers multiple green actions, including plastic recycling, tree plantation, and electric vehicle adoption. Officials emphasized that the campaign aims to encourage active, healthier lifestyles while fostering community participation in environmental conservation.
