Government Removes Minimum Purchase Condition Under Special Petrol Relief Scheme

The federal government has removed the mandatory minimum five-litre purchase condition under the Prime Minister’s Special Fuel Relief Scheme, allowing eligible citizens to purchase petrol in smaller, flexible quantities. The decision was formalized during a high-level National Steering Committee review chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, following public feedback gathered during the initial nationwide rollout. The modification specifically targets lower-income groups, daily wage earners, and commuters who often cannot afford large, single-transaction fuel purchases.

Under the updated guidelines, registered owners of motorcycles, three-wheelers, and rickshaws will receive a weekly fuel token worth Rs500, which can now be redeemed for any quantity of petrol at designated pumps. In addition to removing the volume cap, the government has extended the vehicle eligibility age limit from 15 to 20 years, bringing two- and three-wheelers registered on or after January 1, 2006, into the subsidy net.

Fuel stations across the country have been directed to disburse the complete value of each relief token without deducting service charges or fees. Authorities have also implemented offline fallback mechanisms to facilitate citizens in areas with low internet connectivity, ensuring transparent and uninterrupted relief distribution across all regions.
