Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed the health secretary to establish modern cancer diagnosis and treatment centres in Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and Rawalpindi, with each new centre required to include PET scan facilities for advanced diagnostics. Health Secretary Azmat Mahmood said feasibility studies, planning, and administrative arrangements would be expedited.
The Proof This Approach Works
This expansion builds on real results: since Punjab introduced its first cryoablation machine at Mayo Hospital in 2025, more than 70 Stage 1 cancer patients have received successful, free treatment through the facility. In August, five new cryoablation machines were dispatched province-wide — two to the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer in Lahore, and one each to Nishtar, Allied, and Benazir Bhutto Hospitals.

With a documented 70-patient success rate already backing this technology, extending PET-scan-equipped centres to four more cities isn't a speculative bet — it's Punjab scaling up something that's already been shown to work.
