Dubai breaks world record with Hatta sign that is taller than Hollywood's

The Hatta mountain marker in Dubai has beaten the record for the tallest landmark sign.

The Hatta sign, which stands 19.28 metres tall on top of the Hajar Mountains, welcomes travellers to one of the UAE’s fastest-growing tourism attractions.

Dubai Holding’s sign has been named the “Tallest Landmark Sign” by Guinness World Records.

The Hatta sign towers over the famous Hollywood sign, which stands at 13.7 metres. It, like its American cousin, illuminates the night sky.

It is only accessible by foot and takes approximately 30 minutes to walk from Hatta Wadi Hub.

Hatta, located near the Oman border, has already established itself as an adventure destination, with mountain biking and kayaking among the numerous popular activities on offer.

The Hatta Master Development Plan, which is part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, aims to increase tourism, business, and investment in the area.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, revealed a big vision for Hatta in October 2021, including the construction of a beach, a new lake, a cable railway, many hotels, and 120 kilometres of cycling routes.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, gave orders months later to assemble a supreme committee to manage the megaproject.

Dubai Tourism launched a campaign named “The Highlands of Dubai” in December to emphasise the mountainous exclave’s cooler climates and natural beauty. Hatta’s latest improvements are intended to improve the well-being of inhabitants while also providing new experiences for visitors.

Sheikh Mohammed visited the Hatta Souq in February, which combines modern and traditional design elements.

It has seven stores, six indoor and seven outdoor kiosks, 42 sales platforms, a huge store, eight food carts, a children’s playground, outdoor seating and green spaces, men’s and women’s prayer rooms, and public restrooms.

Residents can display their artisan products, agricultural produce, and commercial ventures at the souq.

The much-anticipated Hatta Beach Project is also in the works.

It will be a year-round tourist destination, featuring the Crystal Lagoon, an artificial lake with a beach area, leisure and entertainment facilities, shoreline activities, and watersports.
