On Tuesday, Pakistan’s hopes to win a gold medal at the ongoing Asian Games suffered a huge blow when Arshad Nadeem withdrew from his javelin throw event.
According to an official of Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), Arshad has informed the POA and Pakistan contingent that he will not participate in the event due to a chronic injury.
Arshad was originally scheduled to compete in the men’s javelin throw finals on Wednesday evening. A statement attributed to Pakistan’s Chef de Mission, released by the POA, explained that Arshad had been experiencing knee pain for several months, and it became more acute after the World Athletics Championship.
The statement outlined the timeline of events, including Arshad’s complaints of pain and his desire for a medical evaluation. He underwent a comprehensive medical examination, including an MRI, at a local hospital in Hangzhou, where the chronic injury was diagnosed.
After consulting with medical personnel, Arshad Nadeem made the difficult decision not to participate in the Asian Games. His primary concern was preventing any further complications that could hinder his training program and future participation.
