The University of Karachi has signed an agreement with the University of Karachi Alumni Association, Houston, Texas (UKAHA) in the United States to provide “need-based” scholarships to students.

The collaboration aims to provide “need-based” scholarships to students, covering two semesters. Benefiting from this initiative will be students from diverse departments, including international relations, economics, psychology, mass communication, chemistry, statistics, mathematics, and computer science.

The financial assistance program, titled “UKAHA Academic Achievement Award,” was formalized through the MoU signing ceremony involving UoK Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi and UKAHA Houston President Muhammad Azam Akhtar. Dr Iraqi commended the alumni association for its crucial role in supporting students and its unwavering commitment to the alma mater.

He highlighted the global recognition of UoK students, emphasizing their potential and the university’s impact on their success.

Underlining the impact of inflation and rising living costs, the UKAHA has increased its annual financial grant to Rs one million from the previous Rs500,000, as outlined in the 2019 agreement.

President Akhtar, expressing gratitude to the university and its faculty for their instrumental role in alumni success, affirmed the continued support of the alumni body to students in the future.
