On the orders of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Saudi Arabian government has chosen to renovate five historic mosques from the time of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the Makkah region, according to local media.

The Project for the Development of Historical Mosques aims to promote Saudi Arabia’s vibrant cultural heritage, conserve and renovate the mosques, increase their usefulness, and maintain the mosques’ historically influenced architecture.

Al-Baiah Mosque

The first mosque to be established in Makkah as part of the project’s second phase is Al-Baiah Mosque, which was constructed by the Abbasid Caliph Abu Jafar Al-Mansour close to Jamarat Al-Aqaba in Mina.

Al-Khadr Mosque and Abu Inbeh Mosque

The renovation project also includes two mosques in Jeddah: Al-Khadr Mosque on Al-Dhahab Street in the Al-Balad neighborhood and Abu Inbeh Mosque in Harat Al-Sham.

Al-Khadr Mosque

While Al-Khadr Mosque, located around 66 kilometers from the Grand Mosque in Makkah, was constructed around 700 years ago, Abu Inbeh Mosque was constructed more than 900 years ago.

Al-Fath Mosque

As part of the project, Al-Fath Mosque in the Al-Jamoum neighborhood will also be developed. In the year that he overcame Makkah, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is reputed to have worshiped at this mosque.

Al-Jubail Mosque

The project also includes the renovation of the more than 300-year-old Al-Jubail Mosque, whose post-renovation space will be 310 square meters. There will still be room for 45 worshippers in it.

The second phase of the development project, which includes all regions of the Kingdom, will feature a total of 30 mosques.
