Major Crackdown: FIA Arrests 2 Suspects in Massive Daily Diesel Theft from PSO Pipeline
In a major breakthrough against fuel pilferage, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), in a joint operation with Pakistan State Oil (PSO), has busted an organized criminal network. The raid resulted in the red-handed arrest of two suspects involved in stealing a massive 20,000 liters of diesel daily from a main PSO pipeline.
The successful operation took place near the Sihala region in Islamabad following a precise tip-off.
Here are the key details of the operation and its impact on the national exchequer:
1. The Modus Operandi: An Underground Network
The culprits had set up a highly sophisticated, illegal underground secondary pipeline connected directly to the main PSO-ARL Sihala pipeline. By tampering with the primary line, they safely siphoned off thousands of liters of fuel every day. The stolen diesel was then transferred into large oil drums and distributed directly into the black market.
2. Extent of the Illegal Operation
Initial investigations by the FIA revealed that this illegal tapping network had been smoothly operating under the radar for the last five to six months. With an estimated 20,000 liters being stolen on a daily basis, the scale of the theft indicates a highly organized group with specialized technical knowledge.
3. Millions of Rupees Lost
The financial impact of this operation on the national economy is staggering:
The Loss: According to initial estimates from PSO, the national exchequer has suffered a loss of well over Rs100 million.
Seized Assets: During the raid, officials successfully seized the illegal underground pipeline setup. Additionally, two Shehzore pickups loaded with multiple tanks and fuel drums were confiscated on the spot.
4. Ongoing Investigations
A formal case has been registered against the arrested individuals. The FIA has stated that the scope of the investigation is being broadened to determine if any internal elements or government officials facilitated this long-running theft network.
The Bottom Line: This successful joint raid marks a critical victory against oil smuggling and black-market fuel rings in Pakistan. By cutting off this 20,000-liter daily drain, the state has closed a massive illegal revenue loop, highlighting the need for tighter, digitized surveillance along national fuel lines.
