ISLAMABAD – October 15, 2025

Pakistan Telecommunications Limited (PTCL) announced the successful completion of submarine cable repair on Wednesday, restoring internet connectivity across Pakistan. The maintenance was carried out by the international cable consortium to fix a faulty repeater that had caused widespread slowdowns in recent days.

PTCL spokesperson Amir Pasha confirmed that the repair process began at 11 a.m. on October 14 and was completed smoothly. “Internet service speed and connectivity have been restored across the country,” he said, assuring users that services are now operating normally.

Internet Disruptions and Repair Effort

On Tuesday, users in upper Punjab and Islamabad experienced slow internet connectivity due to both law and order disruptions and scheduled cable maintenance. PTCL had earlier clarified that the slow internet was linked to essential maintenance on one of its undersea cable systems.

The repair was conducted in collaboration with international partners to fix a repeater fault, ensuring long-term service stability and faster response to network interruptions in the future.

Pakistan’s Submarine Cable Network

PTCL operates three undersea optical fibre cable systems, forming a vital part of Pakistan’s international connectivity infrastructure. These are part of six total submarine cable systems serving the country:

  • 3 systems by PTCL
  • 2 systems by Trans World Associates (Pvt) Ltd
  • 1 PEACE cable operated by Cyber Internet Services

Together, these systems have a combined capacity of 13 terabits per second (Tbps). Pakistan’s national usage currently ranges between 7 and 8 Tbps, meaning the country has sufficient bandwidth capacity to handle rising demand.

Connectivity Restored Nationwide

Following the repair, internet speeds have returned to normal, offering relief to millions of users and businesses who rely on stable connections for daily communication, online education, and digital commerce.

The successful repair reinforces PTCL’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted internet access and maintaining the stability of Pakistan’s digital infrastructure.
