The Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) has bolstered its maritime fleet with the addition of a new oil tanker, MT Karachi, which arrived at Karachi Port carrying its inaugural crude oil shipment.
New Addition to PNSC Fleet
The MT Karachi reached Karachi Port on Tuesday, transporting crude oil from a Gulf country destined for the National Refinery. This marks the vessel’s first journey to Pakistan since its acquisition by PNSC.
Investment and Strategic Importance
Officials revealed that the tanker was purchased for $74 million as part of a strategic initiative to enhance Pakistan’s maritime capabilities and lessen the country’s reliance on foreign shipping companies.
Fleet Expansion Plans
With MT Karachi joining the fleet, PNSC’s total number of ships has increased to 13. Authorities also indicated that two additional vessels are expected to be incorporated into the fleet in the coming month, further strengthening the corporation’s shipping capacity.
