Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched the 1650 Mega Watts Shanghai Electric Thar and Thal Nova Thar projects in Tharparkar.

The power plants’ opening was also attended by Sindh’s Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Shehbaz Sharif stated during the opening ceremony that the two power projects completion is crucial for the country. The prime minister stated that hundreds of megawatts of electricity were being produced today on the Thar desert’s plains. He stated, “This light from Thar is spreading to all of Pakistan.

He stated, “This development visit will create the foundation of Pakistan’s progress and prosperity. He said that the coal was a gift from God and would produce thousands of megawatts of electricity for 100 years.

He said that the electricity produced in Thar will prevent the importation of billions of dollars worth of coal.

The construction of transmission lines is also ongoing and will be finished quickly, he added. By April 30, the work on the electrical transmission lines will be finished, he promised. The PM said that power would be sent via transmission lines to every nook and cranny of Pakistan.

Shehbaz Sharif added, “Unfortunately, these initiatives have been placed on hold for the last four years.

These coal-fired projects were constructed with a total direct investment of $3.53 billion, and they will produce 11.24 billion units of affordable energy annually.

The current electricity production from Thar coal will rise to 3300 megawatts with the start of these projects.
