PM Shehbaz hails Ireland decision to recognise Palestine. He stated, “I spoke to Prime Minister Simon Harris, Republic of Ireland last evening to express my deep admiration for the recent decision taken by his government to recognise the state of Palestine”. In this telephonic call, he acknowledged this step taken by Ireland sets precedent for other nations to follow. It can play a vital role in advancing the Palestinian cause and becomes a message hope for people in Gaza.

In addition to this, the premier also expressed his hope that some level of attention and measures will be taken to address Kashmir. The terror attacks on people of Kashmir and the land itself remain a point of dispute between India and Pakistan to date. On multiple forums, Pakistan correlates the brutalisation of people to what happens in Kashmir. For example in the UNGeneral-assembly held yesterday, Munir Akram shed light on the issue of Kashmir as well as Palestine. Furthermore, the PM expressed consistent support that Pakistan has and continues to give to Palestine. Proposing a two-state solution, the PM explicated that this is the suggested resolution to bring about peace in middle-east. Additionally, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to the struggle of the Palestinian people. He commended the ICJ’s ruling that Israel must halt its attacks on Gaza and Rafah.

Irish PM Simon Haris responds

The Irish Prime Minister responded in firm support of Palestine. He stated that “Ireland has made a principled decision in coordination with other European allies, as the scale of Israel’s military actions in Gaza could no longer be tolerated in any form.” Ireland remains one of the first countries to declare heir support for Palestine at least ever since October 7. In order to globally promote the very existence of Palestinian state, the Premier responded that this step had become necessary.

The two leaders further conversed about the bilateral relationship between Pakistan and Ireland. Further, they both highlighted their mutual eagerness to enhance cooperation in areas of shared interest. Both demonstrated keen interest in enhancing bilateral trade, investment, and cultural exchanges between their respective nations. PM Shehbaz even offered an invite to PM Simon for an official visit to Pakistan.
